How This Tool Works
Medicare enrollment deadlines are tied directly to your birthday. Missing your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP) can result in permanent late penalties and coverage gaps. This tool calculates your exact enrollment windows so you can plan ahead with confidence.

Medicare Enrollment Periods Explained
- Initial Enrollment Period (IEP): 7-month window that begins 3 months before you turn 65 and ends 3 months after your birthday month
- Special Enrollment Period (SEP): Available if you or your spouse had qualifying employer coverage — triggered when that coverage ends
- General Enrollment Period (GEP): January 1 – March 31 each year, for those who missed their IEP without an SEP
- Annual Enrollment Period (AEP): October 15 – December 7 each year, to switch Medicare Advantage or Part D plans
- Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period: January 1 – March 31, for those already enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan
Still working at 65? If you have employer coverage through your job (or your spouse's job) with 20 or more employees, you may be able to delay Medicare enrollment without penalty. Our agents can confirm whether your plan qualifies so you don't enroll too early or too late.
Don't Navigate Enrollment Alone.
